Difference between scene kids and emo kids?

There is a recurring conversation at school, at home and here on the net over the differences between these various people. How can you tell the difference between the two? I have some friends that consider themselves scene kids. They are really nice people. The idea of being "scene" is usually knowing a lot about the local bands/music scene. "Emo" is as always "Emotional" were as scene kids, I believe is more of the style and looking like an emo without the personality of it all. People who only follow the fashion and style, while emo kids follow the fashion, the style and the lifestyle.

IM EMO, I DONT CUT, MOST PEOPLE SAY IM THE MOST HAPPIEST PERSON THEY'VE EVA MET, SCENE DOES FOLLOW LIFESTYLE TOO, I SWEAR, PEOPLE ALWAYS STEREOTYPE EMOS, ALL THAT LIFESTYLE SHIT IS WRRRONNNG I KNOW ABOUT 300 EMOS AND ONLI 1 CUTS THEIR WRISTS AND THEY ONLY DID IT FOR 1 WEEK!!!!! SCENE IS MORE PUNKY IF U ASK ME, MORE O.T.T AND EMO IS MORE IN TOUCH WITH GOTH THAN SCENE- THATS THE DIFFERENCE, SCENE LOOKS LIKE STRAIGHT OFF THE CATWALK WITH THE SCENES I KNOW, EMOS R MORE DARK...

I don't like to be emotional, heck, I've even perfected changing my expressions to keep people from seeing what I'm really thinking but I haven't thought of cutting myself or anything like that ever since I was clinically depressed. So I suppose I've got a little of both in me, I don't will most likely never write a poem but I do listen to Emo music along with my other rock music, I like the hair-style but as of yet my hair isn't long enough for styling it to get the full emo effect and I need to go shopping for new clothes soon (grew a lot as of late).

Part of that's true, but surely scene & emo aren't JUST about the music and the fashion? There's usually more to it than that..
But one thing that does get annoying, that if your Emo you're suddenly not allowed to be happy, and everyone assumes you cut yourself! but surely people who cut themselves have their own problems, am i not right? Cause i'm Emo, but i'm not sad all the time, i like to have a laugh, but that doesn't mean that i have to be scene just because i'm happy!
But also Emo & Scene are about being your own person, doing your own thing, being who you want to be, not who your friends are.

ok, come one...seriously...
people are not understanding this...whole "emo" and "scene" thing...
people that say all emo's cut their wrists and they should get a life..obviously don't understand..ok because you don't have to cut yourself to be emo..ok? and it is kinda obvious that you are a wannabe...if you openly say,"oh..i'm an emo kid..blah blah blah"
i think about it this way..
if you're scene...you wear the bright colors and you are kind of loud and what not...and the emo's are happy but not too obnocious..idk...it is really hard to explain...
....but half the people don't understand stereotypes so WE all should shut the hell up.

oh wow, i just finished reading a few of these, and im starting to think you're all posers. Gosh, labeling yourselfs as 'emo' and 'scene' just means you are a wannabe. Do you ever hear the actual emo kids saying "im emo, but i dont do this" ? i think not. Btw, emo is a type of music that people put into a style. Scene kids are just kids who are "on the scene" or who you see around alot, who stand out a bit more then your average joe.

scene kids and emo kids are kind of the same except scene kids are usually mroe colouful in the things they do.
they listen to different music
emo = rock, alternative
scene = electronic, pop

one of my friends clearly states that she's scene, though everyone thinks she emo.

most emo people don't really know they're emo, unless someone else tells them.

scene kids also love photography. they're like photo whores .it's pretty awesome. they love to take pictures, especially of themselves.

people calm down
if people want to label themselves then let them

to me labeling yourself is easier to find friends. i'm not saying that you can only be friends with people who say they are like you... but you tend to get along with people who like the same things that you do, right?
right.

i don't really consider myself anything and it's just cool to have a bunch of friends in different groups.

Im sorry, ppl who say "ppl who label themselves emo or scene are posers" idk, i think a poser is a person who just becomes something else to be popular or cool, if they want to become something else than they were before than let them without them being posers. I guess i would be considered scene, because im not all depressed and stuff, and i dress girlyish and like a boy. My guy friend is emo and he dresses like a boy, so ppl should not be stereotypical to emo guys dress like girls and emo girls dress like guys.

Dumdadum.
Wow.
To me, emo is more of a subtle thing...like, yeah, you can say you're emo but it's not something to talk about too much. As for scene there isn't so much as a need for the label I think, since emo has kind of evolved into a culture more than a label.
And so I think it's okay to call yourself emo. It's another thing to compare cuts at lunch or whine about how the world hates you because that's stupid, not emo. The emo folks I know are some of the most optimistic people I've ever met.
...yeah.

If everyone was so individual, how could there possibly be such a thing as "emo"? Whole groups of people that dress alike and have similar hairstyles? What about the people who will listen to system of a down, nirvana, rihanna and high school musical, and not be ashamed to like any of these?
Who says that someone who wears burberry and likes hip-hop and rap music is any less individual and beautifully unique than someone who likes Rites of Spring and wears a side fringe and tight pants? I'm not saying that everyone who claims to be "emo", "scene" "ghetto" etc. looks and acts exactly the same, and perhaps some people's personalities fit the stereotype of "emo", but believe it or not, even individualistic emo people change to fit in with the other emos around them. I've seen it happen. They change. Some people I know never even used to LIKE tight jeans and blue hair, but now they claim to have loved it "like, forever" Not necessarily a bad thing, but if you think about it, what's the point? Why not bring a whole new personality into the mix, instead of basing yours around a stereotype thats already there? In the words of Fall Out Boy: "Bandwagon's full, please catch another". I agree completely with a lot of the things said by the guy on this homepage, but I've agreed completely with many different kinds of people. Are we really all so insecure that we need a group of people "just like us" to be happy? If the emo lifestyle and frame of mind are about being unique and different, how can they exist at all? It's a contradiction in itself. Changing who you are to be different is the same as changing who you are to be the same as everyone else. It's just a different way of conforming.

Remember, you are an individual. Just like everyone else.

I'm sorry but... emo kids are sad and depressing? Do you know what you're on about? I'm an emo and I'm happy as hell. Scene kid / Emo kid division has all to do with how emotional you are - Scene is generally the kids who push it abit further and tend to mix the emo style with that of trends /chavs, like with Nike Dunks and Mckenzie hoodies, and all that.

wow to mr.anonymous on october 17th
someone has issues
i think he's got quite a bit of the emotional aspect to him
he's also a very closed minded fellow
a shame he can't see that not everyone who likes the emo or scene style wants to kill them selves
that's a whole other realm
that's the scuicidal section right there
sure the style and the scuicide may make contact every once in a while
but you know what?
the great majority of us are happy people
you know what else?
we are being ourselves,
and making ourselves look good for at least an hour every morning is part of that
we care about what we look like
we want people to think to their selves
"how the hell did they make their hair do that?"
we're not the people who blend into the crowd,
we're the people you notice
we aren't the guys who wear avg fit jeans a belt buckle from some shitty store
we wont wear a shirt that you know i bought at american eagle or hollister
all our clothing we either made
customized
or bought it at a store that no one knows about
you want to know why you're so angry?
because you dont know how to get yourself noticed
you're just another angry kid in the crowd who no one will ever notice or remember
no one will think about what you were wearing or what yourhair looked like a week after they saw you on the bus
no one cares about you or thinks about you
there is more than one reason why you posted that comment anonymously
one is because you dont want people to know that you're the one posting those closeminded messages
but you didn't know that noone gives a about what your name is or who you are or where you live
anyways
you just dont get it
and you are just one step closer to being forgotten forever

I'm in grade 8
In my school there are many haters of emo/scene kids.
I have nothing against emo kids. I love them. they are so fun to be around. My boyfriend is emo, my best friend is emo and the happiest group of people I know are emo. They are so much fun. I love the music too by the way

For the love of God, you haters
I mean, you make fun of 'scene' kids or 'emo' kids for conforming to something that is supposed to be a symbol of non-conformity.

You are all contradicting yourselves. You’re saying that you want to hurt/kill??!!Someone for the way they look?
Has the human race honestly regressed that far back? Take a look at movies like - Mississippi burning, the pianist or to kill a mockingbird. You’re acting the same way as the people in the movies. You’re criticizing someone for their beliefs.
I do not identify as 'emo' 'Indie' or 'scene' but I do own vans slip on’s, I do wear tight jeans, and I do listen to bands that the majority of my classmates have not heard of. But just because my jeans are tighter than yours does not make me a lesser human being, or a 'fag' as you so delicately put it. Someone listens to obscure bands? Why the ---- do you care? Get a hobby!!!

Please. People who listen to unpopular music do so, for the most part, because music is a huge part of life for them, and seeing it slowly stripped down and sold for ratings waters down the concepts that the music originally held.

That is why they prefer to listen to bands that you don’t know about, so that they DON'T become like my chemical romance, fall out boy, etc. If you still think that they are conforming, than think of this:

People who go to AE or AF are spending A LOT of money on the clothes they buy. Kids who go to vintage stores are buying cheap and for the most part really nice clothing. Everyone, whether you want to admit it or not, has before, will in the future, or is copying someone. It doesn’t make you a bad person though, it makes you a human, cause the sad fact is, that there is no originally left, everything has been done.

So if kids want to hold on to what they see as the last shred of originally left in modern society, let them. and ---- OFF.

Wow, this is almost the only conversation on the web.

SCENE is the style that goths and emos follow. Dark, lost, tight clothing. "Scene kids" are people who wear this fashion.
Not all scene kids are goths or emos.

EMO is the most difficult term I have ever tried to explain. An emo is somebody that is emotional inside. Usually they have been depressed at some point and they have sort of hardened. Many let their feelings be told through poetry and fashion and music. Music is mine. For gawd's sake not all emos are suicidal or slit their wrists!

GOTHS are like emos. They seem to be more dark and aggressive. I have actually never met a goth.

Basically, they all try to break from the tedious status quo and try to be who they are, not who someone else is.

maybe the people who think labeling yourself is dumb are the people who are original enough to not totally fit in with one group. so what if you like aropostal and vintage stuff? so maybe you like to listen to unheard of bands and popular music? why do people get concidered a poser for dumb things like that? i dont understand how people can call people who arnt afraid to say they like both preppy and darker styles posers. maybe you are someone that truely fits in to "emo" maybe youre someone who doesnt fit entirely but are afriad to say you like some "forbidden" things. to me ive always thought the people who are doing a bunch of junk for attention are the posers. it doesnt matter if you preppy goth emo scene or what i would concider you a poser for trying to get attention. but there is the exception that thats just the way some people are. like how people say punk is dead. maybe its not. i hate how people say kids only dye their hair crazy colors for attention. no not all do. well im pretty much rambaling on. haha. but ive never met anyone that thinks the same way i do on this topic. am i the only one? or one of the few?

We also wear those little bows in out hair. aaaaand we normaly have like brighter ish colors in our hair, like neon pink, green, and blue. Scene is a trend. Live in L.A. Trust me. Most of them try too hard. Most of the 'scene' and 'emo' are transitioning to HIPSTERS...which is slowly generating into a trend. Most of them don't know the actual scene. "Scene" and "emo" mostly came from Myspace. The usual straightened hair, tight pants, hardcore music...Most of them aren't sad, which most of you are correct. But sad, because trend is fully visible in this world today...

but seriously in this world it can't be like that cause naturally people just tend to use labels to identify others who are similar in attitude, style, or lifestyles. soooo its stupid, but it happens!!

I wanna be a emo.
But somehow i'm a scene.
I hate life at times,
i write poems, i sulks, i play the guitar.
Yet i dont listen to emo songs.
But i am labelled as a scene.
What should i do?
I wanna be emo..

Ok so ill be straightforward..

Scene kids are more like.."posers". I mean not to be harsh..ok maybe i worded it wrong..I just know that emos are the real deal. and a majority(not all) scene kids get inot the neon colors and etc. and love the whole scene but arent necessarily willing to go as far as being labeled emo.Grr i feel like im rambling and not making sense..haha i hope i worded this all right.

Scene is about standing out and being individual, whilst EMO is about emotion and music.

Scene and Emo are different. Emo people tend to be more thoughtful and emotional and sensitive. Not all Emo people cut, and not all cutters are Emo. Also, Emo people can be just as crazy and outgoing as scene people. Scene people tend to live in the here and now, while Emo people spend a lot of time thinking about things past, present, and future. You don't need certain hair, clothes, music, makeup, or anything to be one or the other. What makes you one or the other is what you're like when no one else is around. Do you keep to yourself or are you constantly on the move? Emo people tend to like to have alone time, but they still like to hang out with friends too! Scene people are usually in constant motion, busy, excited, constantly with friends, but they do need alone time to unwind every once in a while! Emo people tend to need more "unwinding time" than scene people is all.

I'm not gonna tell you whether I'm scene or emo or what I wear or what my hair is like. That's no one's business but my own. I just want to try to help clear things up. I don't see why everyone needs to be hating on each other because they're this or that or the other thing. I have friends from every group imaginable, and they're all wonderful people.

So please stop ragging on each other and let people be who they want to be. Whether you accept it or not is your choice, but don't throw insults. Please.

this is sooo true. i am a scene and i absolutly HATE HATE HATE it when kids think i dress like the emos. because i really dont, i dont even cut and never will. sure i have the sweeping bangs and the black clothes and skinnes, but i also wear as much neon as possible to top it. im the happiest, most livley person and it really is a shame when people think of me as emo. and thank you for whoever wrote this article:D
