Emo Fashion Advice

emoboy

by cakecake

If you truly want to change yourself and become emo, your going to have to undergo many stages, although you'll need patience.

Step 1.

Grow out your hair long enough to the point where the side bangs go past your chin, because that frames your face and makes your face look more slender, you can have the rest of your hair that length.

Step 2.

There are two options when it comes to hair straightening....

Option 1:

Buy a decent hair straightener, not some cheap one that you'll throw away in 3 months... One that will last you good as a buddy, seeing how you have curly hair, if you do have a decent hair straightener I suggest you put it on a high temperature, not too high or within months you'll get noticeable amounts of frizzy ugly nappy split end like hair. Also don't grab a chunk load of hair and straighten it... It will also result in nappy hair... If you have have curly hair, do each and every layer of hair in small smallllll portions. Get hair clips and get your top layers and clip them to your head, and slowly straighten the bottom layers little by little then move to the middle and then the top... To get a more straight look to your hair, brush a bristle brush (skinny brush) through a portion of hair your going to straighten and follow the brush. Also USE CONDITIONER if you dont or atleast hair care repair like hot shower oils or anti frizz from the drugstore, because your hair will get frizzy whether you like it or not no matter what kind of hair straightner you use.

Option 2:

Get it chemically straightened... Wait until your hair grows past your chin, and find a decent trustworthy salon and ask about chemical hair straightening. It usually costs around 150$-200$ depends.... and takes around 2-3hours. When you go to the salon get short layers at the top of the crown of your head that are the size of your finger and make the choppy layers, get aloootttt of layers! and get a few layers on your side bangs not to much to make them look too thin, they have to be longgg!(your side bangs need to frame your face). For your bangs I suggest you get a side swept choppy look that will hide your eyebrows somewhat (like a skater bangs but with more layers more unique) or fully grow out your bangs to your chin and cut it to the point to where you can pin your bangs to the side.

Also if you don't think your hair color doesn't suit your scene style, get it died a natural color range like ( black, brown, blonde) if you want blonde color then to pull it off your going to need a small face/small chin/slender face. Brown and black are easier to pull off and match the colors of your eyebrows. DONT GET THOSE HIGHLIGHTS EVERYONE IS TALKING ABOUT like (blue, red, etc) to pull that off once again your going to have a slender face, with good features, if not then youll look like a poser. Try not to overexagerrate scene/emo with those vivid colors try to stay a natural scene color.

Step 3.

If you want to poof up your hair like all the other scenesters, your going to have to tease it.
Your going to need LAYERS ( alot of layers on your scene hair or youll just look like a big mass of hair even though some scenesters ignore my warning and still look like they have a big head)

HAIRSPRAY (A GOOD HOLD )
BRISTLE BRUSH (SKINNY THIN BRUSH)
OTHER VOLUMIZING PRODUCTS.

1. your hair has to be clean and straightened.
2. go to youtube and look up "how i tease my hair" that will give you a tutorial..

Step 4.

Okay your going to need eyelash extensions... this is going to complicated at first because it took me forever to master it.
There are two different kids of eyelash extensions your can get.

The full eyelash products the full ring of eyelashes for one eye) or individual eyelashes (tiny seperate ones). You are going to have to find a tutorial to how to stick on that cause for me its hard to explain... Don't worry if you do buy one on a drugstore will cost 3-5$ and will come with directions and glue and additional info.

Step 5.

CUT YOUR EYEBROWS! GET THEM PLUCKED! not to the point to where you completely look demonic... I don't think you'll look good with drawing them on with a eyeliner pencil. Just a natural slender look, not too skinny. So just look up some photos of some popular scene guys and look for one who has a natural eyebrow shape, something that will match your the shape of your upper eyelid and will complete all your facial features.

Step 6.

Eyeliner and Makeup.
Eyeliner... DONT OVEREXAGERRATE IT AND LOOK LIKE A RACCOON. or a hamburgler. At first since your probably a beginner at makeup try the sides of your eyelids if your eyes are a decent amount far apart and the ends of your eyelids just on the outer sides. Also get a volumizing mascara to bring out your eyes and eyeliner, try exaggerating the edges of your lashes so bring them out, get a dark shade for mascara. YOU NEEEEDDD MASCARA! if you want a paler facade i suggest you buy the most palest decent concealer you can find in a drugstore. If you want to hide acne, then I suggest you get a powder compact or a concealer that matches your skin tone or is a tad bit more brighter. For eye shadow look for tutorials on youtube...

Step 7.

Shave any evidence of chin hair, facial hair SHAVE ITTT... It makes your skin look more clear. Shave especially if you have really dark dark dark hair as mustache hair.

step 8.

body.
Now I know Im being a real blunt.
If your really want this ideal image.
Lose weight.
If your slender and have a high metabolism, thats great your set!
You notice that these scene guys are skinny.
Dont go bulimic. Don't get too deep into turning yourself into something your not. Also I dont want you to hurt your body severely which bulimia can lead too same with anorexia. Just exercise and take in your daily amount of food. Scene guys are usually frail looking as in they are not muscular they don't have abs, they look great in fit teeshirts if they are frail looking, they have no muscles but look like a slender girl, it doesn't show the muscle outlines because they have none and they like the ideal scene make sure you lose belly fat and on your sides, that is a turn off. Make sure your legs are slender, no matter how short/tall you may be if you have slender legs your good to go for skinny jeans.

Step 9.

Cloth shopping
BIGG THING, usually your supposed to find your own unique fashion but i guess you have no sense whatsoever...
Sorry for being blunt but its true.

Okay what your going to have to shop for are usually band tees or vintage abstract tees. Don't get the mainstream ones unless you have a nice physique then its acceptable if not you will be criticized.... get bomber jackets ( fur plaid hoodies and are sometimes snug at the waist) if you have slender legs this is hella easy to pull off.
Get studded/vintage belts.
For shoes i suggest you get pumas/ airforce/ the hightop vans/ reebook/ cowboy/vintage boots(if you have a feminine slender body and face) usually sporty vintage/retro scene shoes are acceptable if you wear converses or very common van shoes that you cant seem to pull off you will be accounted as a poser...

Shop at
Urbanoutfitters
American Apparal
Some ebay vintage myspace shops
Fredflare.com
You can buy them online if you don't have one of them near you.
Look at what some of the vintage scene kids wear and update your fashion knowledge from there....

I hope I have overall shaped your appearance of a scene/emo kid.... :)

Very informative, however in step 7, I believe...
I would NEVEREVEREVER shave facial hair. That's just me. Facial hair, just like any other hair, will grow back - thicker, coarser, and darker.
I loved the youtube videos :D

Hey, Thanks for your help.

Im undergoing this stage in my life and this really gave me a good insight on what i need to do.

I am a heavier set guy, not fat, just bulky, i know this is a bad thing, as you have said, so i know i need to loose weight, just not how to loose muscle. (idk how too)

Also, does your hiar have to be down to your chin, mines just past my upper lip. I was also wondering what are we suppose to do with out hair until it reaches that length. I usually just do a come over or a bang swoosh if you will.

I would prefer to get mine chemically straighten because i dont trust myself to do my own bc i know it will frizz.

Other information could be a big help and you can contact me at "Halo14_1991@Hotmail.com"

^My hair just reachs the bottom of my lower lip, I don't like it longer then that because I use it short in the back and sides. Plus am going to dye it blue today so it will mostly damage it a little so I may have to cut a bit in a few weeks.

I don't agree on the vans and converse be poser, vans and converse are a MUST.

OK so since ive been basically an emo/scene kid for about a year here are some tips for those of u who choose to look. Getting it chemically straightened eiminates a lot of curl, but it must be done more than one for a completely straight thing. If u have curly thick hair it is a must. Just dont expect the first time to be magic and perfect. Also u want to get this done every 3 months are so that u dont get a poof under your hair. Then for the heavy set guy. All i can do is tell u to run a lot; dont lift as much, remember if u are after the girls many of them are into big tough guys. Also i cant stress this enough dont use annorexia it makes u seriously sick and u may end up in the hospital if u do this. Remember u are going to need a straghtner no matter what. Cuz that is the only way to keep from curling, cuz mine still curls and ive had chemically straightened twice.

This is the dumbest thing I have ever heard. Geez people. I would assume your whole point in being yourself.. is to be yourself, however you are just copying what *1* person sees as being cool. Good god, get a grip and develop your own style.

See I have a hair cut.
If you know Hayley from paramore that's what it looks like.
I have no idea what to do with my hair.
I don't have a straightner, since my hair is naturally straight.
So I need some help.
And I'm really clueless.
Thanks in advance.

The Emo Scene isn't just about the style, I hope you all know. It's a genre of music and often described as a state of mind. You can't just tell people how to change their looks to become another stereotype. And you can't just wake up one day and say "Hey I'm going to be emo." It's not something you realy decide. It's not something you can truly portray just by dressing the part. -.-

I am not emo. But would love to undergo this life-changing transformation. OMGOMG I'm so worried though, I don't know how I'll fit in. I don't know if the scene emo kids will think I'm poser. I'm so scared. I don't know what music I should listen to. I don't know how I should act and, thanks to your tutorial, I only now know how I should look. I'm so conformist at the moment. I want to be non-conformist and emo and scene. Somebody please help me.

No I lied. I don't. No thanks. I think the whole 'scene' 'emo' 'non-conformist' thing is bull. There is a mass panic about being branded CONFORMIST (OMG, PLZ NO!) but what people don't realise is that by being "non-conformist" they are conforming to the new ideal. "Non-conformist" is the new cool. Or uncool. x]

Those are good suggestions if you WANT to a poser!! "Emo" is a state of mind and you cant call your self emo because of the cloths you wear or the way your hair is cut, It is "EMOtional" get it emo...duh!
But I understand that your only trying to help, but if you were a true "emo" then you should know that it is'nt because of your style, and you are the one who should be mad at all the people who WANT to be "emo" beacuse it's "hot" or whatever people want to call it.

p.s.
Chose your own style,
sometimes it is that you have that defines you...

This was a good read. Instructions on how to be a non-conformist. But its still hard for me to believe that straight guys are reading up on how to look gay. Heres some good advice my mom always told me. Never follow a trend that 10 years from now your really going to be embarrassed by. You don't want to have to burn all your old photos.

How to be emo/scene?
Come on now, what the hell.
This whole blog defines "Poser"
You aren't supposed to dress the part to fit in. Just be who you are and not try to fit into any type of catagory. Whoever posted this is a poser and needs a reality check, seriously.

Okay, I'm sure the whole idea of the tutorial was to show people that want to look what is described as "emo" or "scene" how to, in case they don't know how.
The title is "Emo Fashion Advice," not "How To Be An Emo."
So don't get upset because you think it's just for posers who think they're "emo," or whatever.
It's just another dumb thing that you can find on the Internet.

But then time went by and altho I still dressed prep (I've been prep all my life.) my state of mind became what people call "emo". Now, I read thru this and was thinking, if you've got the state of mind right, you won't need this guide. Like me. And I don't agree w/ the converse being a poser thing. woah.
why the - do people even believe and try these things?
i mean yeah tbh some things help, like with the makeup, the way to dress and what ever. But with the bollocks of "you will be called a poser if you can't pull these shoes off"
how the - is somebody a poser because other people don't think they can pull the shoes off?

anybody can pull a pair of shoes off.
if you want scene hair get it.
if you want to dress scene do it, don't do it just because other people say so.
you should dress how you want.
my whole familys basically chavs.
and i'm the only one with facial piercings, tattoos and tunnels and i don't dress like this because i feel i HAVE to be different.
it's not because i want to be different either, it's because i like the clothes i like, i like the music i like, and i dress how i like.
don't copy people.
that's what makes you a poser.
reading this - and copying it.
when you think about it so many people have probly read this, just not left a comment, and you all look the same.

JEESUS! BE ORIGNAL AND STOP COPYING THIS -.

You kind confuzzled me with the hair part. I want emo/scene hair but my school won't allow highlights unless they're natural looking. So I'm not sure to dye it black or something. I am gettting choppy layers and learning how to tease it and straighten it without making it "nappy". lol and yes I am a GIRL

this is a load of bull. ive bin emo practically most of my life. people reconise me as one buy my personality not for what i look like or how skinny i am (even though i am slim) if u really wanna be emo just be urself or ask one dont take advice from clueless people who dont know what their thinking. if you want hair to look like its bin chewed by rats then go right ahead. i think people who wat to be a poser should be ashamed.

yes emo is a music genre but it is shown as a style too... to be emo you need to have the emo mind set. scene is the style without the depression. it is easier to pull off scene then emo. converse arent only for posers neither are vans. just wear watever the hell you want and tell ppl to piss off if they have any problems with you..... my fav. quote is get over it.
big thing. DONT CALL YOURSELF SCENE/EMO ppl will automatically call you a poser.

I find tht this is just a guide line... and although skinny jenas are a must, the shoes can be whatever you want... i wear globe logic acoustics, they're FIT and i've checkerboarded the laces so they're unique, and as for people calling you a poser, unless you naturally progressed into being labelled as scene then you are essentially a poser, you're looking at 'how to be scene' for god sake, YOU ARE A POSER o_O but don't accept that, be yourself and wear what looks good =]

If u have read this far then i'll tell everyone who's complaining about the post thats it's only tips NOT rules. (i hate to say this but) the "label" "emo" is mostly a state of mind and a music genre so take the ideas from the post and create something new

Peace Out Mon!
